Rangers Drop Series at Clark, Finish Season 19-27

The Olympic College Rangers entered their final weekend of the 2025 season needing a sweep of Clark College to keep postseason hopes alive. Instead, the Rangers dropped three of four tightly contested games, officially ending their season just short of the NWAC West playoffs. Olympic closes out the year with a 9-15 mark in league play.

Friday's series opener at Legion Field saw the Rangers fall behind early and rally late, but missed opportunities on the basepaths leaving 6 men on base which proved costly in a 7-4 loss. Game 2 was an epic 13-inning battle, with the Rangers eventually falling 9-4. Sophomore Nicho Crowley did not allow an earned run and struck out five in 7 innings of work, but the offense could not mount a rally late and the Rangers suffered a tough defeat.

Saturday's doubleheader in Vancouver provided a bright spot, as the Rangers edged out a dramatic 7-6 win in Game 3. A late, 7th inning freshman Dominic Hecker homerun was just enough to allow freshmen Nathan Burke to finish off Silas Stenerson's solid start. A couple of sophomore Ky-Mani Corpuz doubles sparked the offense and led the charge, while Texas-native sophomore Tyler Harris was an HR away from the cycle. The final game of the season was a back-and-forth contest, with the Rangers holding a two-run lead at two different points in the game. A late rally triggered by aggressive baserunning and a clutch sophomore local boy David Matthew RBI single made things interesting, but a 6-spot in the 5th inning for the Penguins put it out of reach.

Despite the disappointing finish, the Rangers saw strong individual performances throughout the season. Tyler Harris was a steady force at the plate, finishing the year with team highs in batting average (.292), slugging percentage (.438), RBIs (26), runs (33), and extra base hits (12). Other team leaders included sophomore Sean Shaffer (45 appearances, 147 at-bats, 11 stolen bases) and freshman DJ Batalona (.417 on base percentage) who collectively provided consistent production. On the mound, Port Orchard's own Nicho Crowley finished the season with a league best 103 strikeouts. Along with his 12 starts, 5 complete games, 2.16 ERA and 1.03 WHIP, Crowley was clearly one of the top arms in the league. Freshman Itsuki Fukuda provided a strong one/two punch for the Rangers as he showed flashes of brilliance in his debut season, logging 11 starts, a solid 28/17 strikeout to walk ratio, and an impressive 4 complete games.

Olympic will now shift its focus to offseason development, returning a strong core of freshmen and looking to build on valuable experience gained throughout a challenging but competitive season.
