Rangers Excel at NWAC North-West Regional Championships

Olympic College hosted the 2025 NWAC North-West Regional Track and Field Championships on May 11 at Bremerton High School, delivering a standout performance on their home turf. The women's team clinched the regional title with 179 points, while the men's team secured a strong second-place finish with 181 points, just behind Green River College's 211.

Top Women Performers:

  • Freshmen Shay-Lah Squally, Na'Riyah Jones, sophomores N'dya Hudson, and Aalliya Alcorn placed 1st in the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.19.
  • Hudson, Alcorn, Squally, and sophomore Avery Thompson took 1st in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:29.08.
  • Hudson also captured first place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.13, second place in the 200 meters with a time 25.99, and 5th place in the 100 meters with a time of 13.62.
  • Squally won the women's high jump, clearing 1.61 meters, took 2nd in the 100 meters (12.75), and 3rd in the 200 meters with a time of 27.08.
  • Jones won the triple jump at 10.15 meters, earned 2nd place honors in the long jump with a 4.70 m leap, and placed 4th in the 100 meters with a time of 13.44.
  • Alcorn made it 1 and 2 for the Rangers in the 400 meters behind Hudson with a time of 1:08.71.
  • Thompson leaped 1.55 meters to take second place behind Squally in the high jump.
  • Freshman Nashayla Fellows won the shot put and discus events with throws of 12.46 m. and 39.51 m. respectively. She also threw the hammer 33.71 m. and the javelin 23.17 m. to place second in both events.  
  • Freshman Miriah Silva kept close pace with her teammate placing second in the shot put (10.57 m.) and discus (30.65 m.) behind Fellows. She bested the field in the hammer with a mark of 34.30 m. and took 3rd in the javelin with a throw of 19.93 m.

Top Men Performers:

  • 4x100 Relay Team: The freshmen quartet of Andy Lin, Aiden Smith, Jaxson McCrimmon, and Zachary Cummings finished third with a time of 44.37 seconds.
  • Also in third was the relay team of Smith, Lin, Cummings, and freshman Johny Raymundo in the 4x400 meters (3:41.38).
  • Mccrimmon gained points with additional 2nd places in the 100 meters (11.29), long jump (6.33 m.), and triple jump (12.49 m.), plus a 3rd place in the 200 meters (23.67).
  • Smith also took 2nd in the 200 meters (23.34) and 3rd in the 400 meters (51.30).
  • Sophomores Jaden Bluitt and Thaden Bauch placed 2nd and 3rd with jumps of 1.72 and 1.70 m. in the high jump.
  • Ivan Picazo: Secured first places in hammer throw with a mark of 47.63 meters, shot put (13.48), discus (39.77 m.), and his javelin toss of 38.98 m. was good enough for 3rd place.
  • Sophomore David Andrews and freshman Alex Roberts were right on the heals of Picazo throughout with Andrews securing 3rd in the shot put (11.06 m.), second in the discus (39.91 m.), and 2nd in the hammer (46.07 m.).
  • Roberts earned 4th in the shot put (11.00 m.), 3rd in discus (32.38 m.), 3rd in hammer (34.20 m.), and 4th in javelin (34.99 m.).
  • Freshmen Alex Bullman took second in the javelin (44.66 m.)

Both teams will look to content next week in the 2025 NWAC Track & Field Championships, scheduled for May 19–20 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. Top ranked Rangers include, in the 100 meters, N'dya Hudson enters as the 4th seed with a best time of 12.54, and Shay-Lah Squally holds the 7th seed at 12.75. The 4x100 relay team of Hudson, Squally, Na'Riyah Jones, and Aalliya Alcorn is ranked 5th with a season-best of 50.82. In the 4x400, Hudson, Alcorn, Squally, and Avery Thompson hold the 7th seed at 4:29.08.

In the throws, Nashayla Fellows is a podium contender in both the shot put (3rd seed, 12.46 meters) and discus (4th, 129'7"). Mariah Siva ranks 6th in the shot put with a mark of 11.23 meters. In the jumps, Shay-Lah Squally is the top seed in the high jump at 1.61 meters.

On the men's side, the Rangers aim to build upon their runner-up finish at regionals. Octavian Clark is seeded 10th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.87. The 4x100 relay team of Clark, Aiden Smith, Jaxson Mccrimmon, and Zachary Cummings holds the 6th seed with a time of 43.43. Smith, Cummings, Nathan Morrison, and Johny Raymundo are ranked 7th in the 4x400 relay with a season-best of 3:32.06.

In the field events, Ivan Picazo is a strong contender in the hammer throw, entering the championships as the 2nd seed with a mark of 52.73 meters.
