Women's Basketball Release End of Year Awards

Women's Basketball Release End of Year Awards

Women's basketball Head Coach Alyson Chandler has released the women's basketball end of year awards.  Congratulations to the recipients of each award!

Most Valuable Player: Lanissa Amacher

Lanissa was voted by her teammates as MVP. Lanissa played close to 40 min a game for a 30 game season and always showed up. She led our team in double doubles, scoring and rebounds. Her teammates counted on her to get a bucket when we needed it, a big rebound against taller teams and to keep a positive attitude in tough match-ups. She was a silent leader and gave 110% on and off the court. Her team would agree that she is truly the kindest person and a blessing to know. Being a freshman, she played a huge role on our team and we are beyond excited to have her back this fall.

Defensive Player of the Year: Missy May Valdez

Missy received defensive player 2nd year in a row. Voted by her team as a team captain, our team relied on Missy to run the point of our defense and she did not disappoint. The pressure she creates on ball is on every opponents pregame board talk and she was still able to pick pockets and create turnovers. Missy was 5th in the NWAC in steals. She deservingly made the first team all defensive for the NWAC North Region. A huge focus for our program is our Energy and through all adversity she still brought it every game, every minute. Missy set the expectation defensively for a lot of players coming in and we are sad to see her go!

Coaches Award: Madison Gardner

Madison (MG) just finished her second year with Olympic, voted a team captain, and has grown beyond belief in her 2 years here. The first few weeks of practice MG spent a lot of time listening, trying her hardest to compete and apply what she's learning. She never stopped this, and became a starter her second year averaging 28+ min a game. MG's confidence and work ethic grew weekly and she is still flourishing. Coach Frankie and I could always count on her to give 110% in practice and in games. MG came into our program quiet and staying close to the rim. She finished her last game being the most vocal player on the court and hitting a LOUD step-back 3pointer to finish her career at OC. We are very proud of the player and person Mg has become and allowed us to experience.
