Gabrielle Becker started the 2023 cross country season looking very strong, although a medical issue made her unable to finish the first meet of the season. For the next month she was unable to do any training or meets because she was not medically cleared.
"We were unsure if she would even be cleared at all for the rest of the season," shared Head Coach Seth Brotherton, "But she was finally cleared to start training and competition again with only two regular season meets left in the year." Once cleared, Gabi worked extremely hard to regain her form. Coming back after a month off was tough, but Becker persevered.
At the NWAC NW Regional Cross Country Championships, on Saturday October 28, Becker ran a great race. She took 2nd place overall and achieved All-Region honors. She ran a personal best time of 20:37.3.
She also led the women's team to a 2nd place team finish. "This achievement shows how dedicated she is and much work she has done to persevere and overcome the adversity that she faced at the beginning of the season," says Brotherton, "I am extremely happy for her, and I am looking forward to seeing what she can accomplish this upcoming weekend at the NWAC Championships."
