David started his coaching career at Walla Walla Community College in 1993 under Ken Johnson. Between his professional baseball seasons, he would work with the infield and catchers as well as the hitters. He worked with Justin Atchley (Texas A&M, Atlanta Braves 93’), Brian Wisler (Cleveland Indians93’), Blair Fowler (Philadelphia Phillies94’), John McAninch (Lewis-Clark State, California Angels 95’), Jose Rio-Berger (Lewis-Clark State 95’), Bucky Jacobson (Seattle Mariners 97’),and Nyjer Morgan (Pittsburgh Pirates 02’).
In 2001, David began coaching at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Washington, as the hitting, catcher, pitching coach. In 2002 he returned to his alma mater, Lewis-Clark State, and had the opportunity to coach under the legendary Ed Cheff. Heworked with hitters, catchers and taught base stealing. In 2002-03, they were World Series Champs and several of the warriors he worked with signed professional contracts; Brendan Ryan (St Louis Cardinals 03’), Marc Kaiser (Colorado Rockies 03’), Emerson Frostad (Texas Rangers 03’), and Micah Furtado(Texas Rangers 03’).
After David left LCSC, he returned to Western Washington, where he landed a job as an assistant coach at Pierce College in Lakewood, Washington. There he served as the hitting, infield, and catching coach. The 2005-06 Raiders recorded their best record in the past ten years.
David took some time off from coaching to work on his master’sdegree in psychology in 2007. He finished the program in 2009 and in 2010 began coaching with the Northwest Blaze. In 2012 with Erik Boley, he started the Washington Nationals 18 Selectteam. in 2017 David coached the Bainbridge 18u select team. The team was only played in 2017.
In 2020 David began volunteering with Olympic College as a hitting and catching coach. David also began select baseball with the Kitsap County Rebels.
David’s philosophy in coaching baseball to young men is to teach them the mental and physical aspects of the game. He then helps players put it all together to maximize their potential and to help them move on to the next level.
